What is Jupiter Boombox?

It is difficult for me to answer the question, “What is your favorite song?” or “Who is your favorite artist?” because my favorites are constantly changing. I find a new band or artist and listen to them consistently and then I hear a song from my childhood and will listen to the artist for days. It’s a never-ending cycle.

I’m always on the lookout for songs and artists I haven’t heard of. So if you’re one of those people who post songs on their Instagram stories, I am one of the probably few people who will stop and listen to that song if I haven’t heard of it - or I’ll add it to my “songs to listen to later” playlist. And speaking of playlists, I have a variety of them. According to my 2019 Spotify Wrapped, I am genre fluid and I take pride in that. I enjoy hearing all different types of music. I think each genre caters towards different moods and emotions.

So, why Jupiter and Boombox? When I am so obsessed with a song or artist, I usually want to tell everyone I know so they can experience the music I am. I wish that I could walk around town with a boombox propped on my shoulder blasting the songs I want everyone to hear. Jupiter speaks to my personality and my personal thoughts of music. Jupiter is the largest planet and the world of music seems just as massive. The amount of artists and songs are endless. Jupiter relates to the weather and I feel like the weather and type of music people listen to directly correlate with one another. The planet itself has an atmosphere full of layers of clouds and just because we can’t see the power and intensity under that layer, doesn’t mean we can’t feel the raging storms. Music speaks to me the same way. We can hear the lyrics, the different instruments, the harmonies and all the other components we aren’t even aware of - we can hear all of that and more than likely will not be able to understand how they got strung together to form a song. Even though we can hear all of those components and not understand, we can most definitely feel and be aware of the range of emotions the song brings as it flows through our ears.

My goal is to share an artist or band every month that I am particularly enjoying - or perhaps one that has been recommended to me. I enjoy researching artists and listening to their songs while finding out how they came to be the musicians they are. My hope is to share my passion for music, writing and creativity all in one place.
